What to Expect During the Construction Phase

Episode III: Operation Build

The Training

You made it through procurement. You survived the re-procurement, budget nightmares, and design reality checks! Just when you thought you were done - it's just begun!

The hands do not come off the reins when construction begins. You can’t have construction disputes until construction begins and when those disputes arise, you have to know what to do. This training will help you to handle everything that comes up between the day you issue the Notice to Proceed to the day you pay the Final Certificate of Payment. You will experience elation, disappointment, and sometimes conflict during the construction phase. Your key to success is to stay on track, and to be UBOT when the project is done. UBOT is David’s term for Under Budget and On Time. This training is designed to help you achieve a UBOT project by teaching you about the key responsibilities of the Design Team and Construction Team during the construction phase. Success is only possible when the architect, contractor, construction, manager, and owner perform their contractual functions. This training will help you to detect team malfunctions and give you the knowledge you need to get the team running toward the finish line again.

This training is for people who will be accountable to the community, the board, and to administration, if the project is late, goes over budget, or otherwise fails to meet the Board’s expectations. Superintendents, CFOs, Assistant Superintendents, District Construction staff, Architects, Project Managers, purchasing professionals, and Board Members have all come away from this training feeling more confident about the role they must play during the construction phase.

David Hansen will be your trainer for this session. The session is part legal, part practical and all original. We feel confident in saying that you have never been to a training like this before. It combines story, competition, and music into an experience we hope you will enjoy and remember for years to come.

The Story

This is the third chapter of the story of Ted Brown – the rookie procurement specialist forced by his now-disgraced former boss into the dangerous world of hyper-accelerated procurement practice. Ted’s ordeal transformed him into “The Procurist.” Together, The Procurist and his new boss Kevin Truly, regained control of their flailing bond projects. In Operation Build, they face the challenge of bringing these projects to life. They are about to learn an important lesson – when the procurement is done, the work is just begun. To make it through they must survive the Operation Build Club.

The session in Austin scheduled for 4/1, has been postponed. We will post a new date once it has been rescheduled.
